April

Ah, April, where on earth have you gone?! I can't believe how quickly this month seems to have disappeared. I feel like I've accomplished approximately nothing at all.

On the plus side, the odd sunny day, the permanent presence of the local farmers and the appearance of some new born lambs have made it feel like spring is really here at last. I'm so excited for warmer weather and long summer days!

In other news, this month I:
- Got my healthy-eating on.
- Saw Kate Nash and Kitty the Lion in concert.
- Lost my Apple virginity when my parents bought me an Ipad Mini as a (very very early) birthday pressie.
- Attended a World Vision Girls' Night Out event with Carrie Grant & Jo Enright - a really brilliant evening of music, stories, comedy, free cake, goodie bags & lots of videos from Africa. What more could anyone want from a night?!
- Led our first "all-age worship" service at work. ('Daunting' does not come close to covering it.)
- Joined a gym for the first time ever.
- Lost half a stone in weight.
- Had my 1 year blog-iversary on this here blog. (That's a thing, right? That's totally a thing.)

I read:
'Innocent Foxes' by Torey Hayden
Another spontaneous 50p pick up at a church book sale, but a far less successful purchase than last month's 'Silver Linings Playbook'. It was an easy read, but that's about all it had going for it - a shame, really, because I so enjoy her true-life stories.

'On Beauty' by Zadie Smith
I have such mixed feelings about this book. I enjoyed Smith's writing and the act of reading the book (although it took me forever), but I kept waiting for something to happen and very little really did. Apparently it's some sort of brilliant reference to E.M. Forster's 'Howards End' but, let's face it, I'm not well-read or well-informed enough to draw any of those comparisons. In the end I just really wanted to give Howard Belsey a good shake and tick it off the '1001 Books to Read' list. Whew!

And I watched:
The Voice (guilty pleasure, much?) and new New Girl on TV.
And also: Series 1 of 'Rev', which amused me greatly; 'Mysterious Skin', which is pretty grim; 'The Hunger Games', which I enjoyed but much preferred the book; 'Whip It', which made me desperately want to be involved in roller derby (alas, I break bones just standing still on roller blades); 'The Men Who Stare At Goats', which I probably would have switched off if it wasn't for Ewan McGregor; 'Flakes', which was just easy viewing; 'Adventureland' - the second Kristen Stewart movie that didn't make me want to punch her in the face; and 'Emma', which frustrated me slightly less than the book.

Anyone would think I'd signed up for a free month of Netflix or something..

All in all it's been a sweet but super-speedy month and I am more than ready for the month of May!

I hope that April treated all of you kindly.
